Pietrus made his senior debut for France against Hungary in 2001 and is in line to make his sixth appearance at a EuroBasket. He was part of the French team which won bronze in 2005 and silver in 2011, and had made 156 appearances at the outset of 2013. His playing career has been divided between France and Spain, starting off in the junior programme at Pau Orthez before making his professional bow in 1999, earning Pro A titles in 2001, 2003 and 2004, as well as the French Cup in 2002 and 2003. Since 2004, he has remained in the Spanish ACB, winning the title with Malaga in 2006 and the Eurocup with Valencia in 2010. His younger brother Mickaël is also a long-time French international, who spent last season with the NBA's Toronto Raptors, while elder brother Ronnie also played professionally.
