Gameday 4 Preview Groups E-H

EUROCHALLENGE

Robert Brown - EWE Baskets Oldenburg

Two teams, both German, competing in EuroChallenge Groups E-through-H, could seal their pass to the Last 16 of the competition prematurely if they emerge victorious from Game Day 4 action.

GROUP E

Okapi Aalstar (2-1) will take a huge step towards the Last 16 on Tuesday night if they make the most of their home-court advantage against fellow Belgian side Belfius Mons-Hainaut (2-1).

Aalstar were trailing by 12 points after the first ten minutes but came from behind to win the reverse fixture in early November, 84-77.

Mons however, rode out 82-78 winners when the two teams met at the same venue in the Belgian Ethias League, exactly a month ago on Tuesday.

In the other game of the group, BCMU Pitesti (0-3) will have to earn their biggest victory on the road so far this season if they don't want to be left out of contention for a top-two finish prematurely.

The Romanians visit France and need to defeat Paris Levallois (2-1), a team against which they gave up 60 points in the second-half when they last met.

Pitesti lost that game 91-75 but will have to take heart from the fact they led by as many as 19 points before collapsing in the third quarter.

GROUP F

Lami-Véd Körmend (0-3) fans know that on Tuesday they will have to propel their team to a first victory in the EuroChallenge against BC Timisoara (1-2) if they want to see what life in the Last 16 of the competition looks like.

The Romanians won the reverse fixture 75-65 and while this is not a do-or-die clash for them, their chances of qualifying will suffer greatly if they don't beat the Hungarians for a second time.

Group leaders EWE Baskets Oldenburg (3-0) go up against Szolnoki Olaj (2-1) in the Game of the Week that will be streamed live on FIBA Europe TV and will punch their ticket to the Last 16 if they win by any margin

GROUP G

14. Ludovic Vaty (BCM Gravelines)
A win for Ludovic Vaty and BCM Gravelines this week will leave them in an almost unassailable position in Group G

BCM Gravelines Dunkerque (2-1) cannot clinch qualification on Tuesday, but an away win at Tsmoki Minsk (also 2-1) would put them in an almost unassailable position.

In case of victory in Belarus, the French side will be 2-0 in the head-to-head with Minsk and would only need one win in the remaining two games, both of them at home, to secure one of the two qualifying spots.

A loss for Tsmoki Minsk will make their road to the Last 16 significantly rockier, whilst in the other game from Group G, Apollon and SLUC Nancy, who both carry 1-2 records into their fixture, need a win to realistically keep their hopes of making the next round alive.

GROUP H

Compared to the rest of the Regular Season group leaders, including those to have dropped a game, Telekom Baskets Bonn (3-0) maintain the lowest goal average.

Bonn average 80.3 points and concede 73.7 per contest and it's true that they have not dominated any of their three contests so far, their biggest-margin victory an 81-72 success at Port of Antwerp Giants (1-2).

However, this could become irrelevant on Wednesday night, should the German side replicate their success over the Giants, this time on home soil.

Bonn Telekom Baskets will clinch a spot in the Last 16 if they beat the Belgians by as little as a point, in the process leaving the Giants facing an uphill struggle to accompany them to the next phase.

While Antwerp would still stand a chance even in the case of defeat, Armia Tbilisi (0-3) will wave good-bye to their aspirations if they fall to Hapoel Unet Holon (2-1) on Tuesday.

The Georgians will also need to overcome the 15-point deficit from their loss in Israel on opening day if they are to maintain a realistic chance of a survival.

Holon on the other hand, largely by virtue of their 88-64 success over Antwerp last Tuesday, still remain a very real chance of making it out of Group action alive.
