Olivais Come Through In The Clutch

Olivais Coimbra topped Extrugasa 66-65 after overtime to dramatically clinch a place in the sixteenth-finals of the EuroCup Women on Thursday night.

Olivais looked like they might have blown it when they conceded the last four points in normal time to squander a 54-50 advantage, with Sara Gomez ice cool in knocking down a pair of free throws eight seconds from the buzzer.

They quickly established another lead in the extra period and were up 65-59 with 1:17 to go, but it was a familiar story as Extrugasa began chipping away again, as Gomez made a jump-shot for the hosts before Miriam Herrera Arevao sank a three-pointer for the hosts to make it 65-64.

Maria Asurmendi split a pair of free-throws to tie it with 25 seconds to go, but Michelle Brandao did likewise to put Olivais back on top 66-65 with 11 seconds to go.

Extragusa set up one last play, but Jaklin Zlatanova's jump-shot at the buzzer missed.

Ambrosia Anderson led the victors with 28 points.
