|Nicholas Fava and Gibraltar remain undefeated in their home tournament|
Gibraltar remain the only undefeated side at the U16 European Championship Men Division C after the conclusion on Thursday of the third day of action in the Final Round.
The hosts held on to inflict on Scotland their first loss in the tournament, 57-50, in a highly entertaining encounter.
The end of a back-and-forth first quarter found the two teams tied at 14, but Gibraltar tightened the screws on defence in the second frame to pull away, 33-21 at the half-time interval.
This 12-point cushion proved enough for the hosts to stay in the lead despite a sustained comeback attempt in the second half by Scotland, who came as close as three points on a Thomas Skinner free-throw 27 seconds from the final buzzer.
The Scottish small forward however missed the chance to trim the gap to two points when he missed his second shot from the charity stripe, while Gibraltar's Jake Haefner kept his calm on the other end of the floor and sunk both of his free-throws to give his team a four-point advantage with just 10 seconds left on the clock.
Haefner, who stayed on the floor for the entire 40 minutes, spearheaded Gibraltar's charge with a double-double of 20 points and 13 assists, while Timothy Fava chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds.
For Scotland, Sinner had 15 points and five rebounds and Sam Stott added 10 points in defeat, while Ewan Lancaster picked up 13 rebounds to go with his four points.
In the other Thursday game Wales were impressive during long stretches in the second and fourth quarters and prevailed 76-61 over San Marino to claim their first win in the tournament.
The key ingredient to the Welsh success was an astronomical double-double effort by center Jacob Williams, who finished with 20 points and an eye-catching 28 rebounds.
When action resumes on Saturday Wales will take on Andorra, who had a rest day on Thursday, while the hosts will face San Marino, the only side who has yet to tick the win column in the competition.
