San Marino and Monaco emerged victorious from their games against Wales and Andorra respectively on Wednesday at the U18 European Championship Men Division C in Andorra.

San Marino booked second place in Group A with a 77-62 win over Wales behind an impressive double-double of Igor Biordi who had 32 points in 35 minutes, also corralling 12 rebounds.

San Marino scored the final seven points of the first quarter to take a 26-18 lead and never looked back as they opened a 39-29 lead until half-time.

Whatever Wales head coach Gavin Lewis had told his players at the break worked, as the Welsh went on a 10-0 run to open the frame, reducing the deficit to two points at 41-39.

That woke San Marino up though and the answered immediately, keeping Wales at distance for the rest of the quarter.

Wales were able to stay in contact for the first three minutes of the final frame, when a Nico Wilson jump shot made it 52-49, but Biordi with an and-one play and a three-pointer in quick succession put an end to all Welsh hopes.

Joshua Reade stood out for Wales with 21 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort.

In the other game of the day, Monaco used a 21-9 third quarter to take control of proceedings and secure a 77-61 win over Andorra.

Leading 33-29 at the half-time interval, Monaco scored the first nine points in the third quarter to take firm grip of proceedings.

Alessandro Generale scored five points in the spurt while Clement Marechal added the other four.

By the time the tournament hosts had coped with the shock and were able to keep pace with their opponents, it was already too late and Monaco cruised the rest of the way.

Generale played 40 minutes and led Monaco with 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists while three of his team-mates also finished in double-figures in scoring.

Juan Bustamante's 13 points and 12 rebounds were in vain for Andorra.

Group winners Moldova and Monaco are now directly qualified for the semi-finals while San Marino face Gibraltar and Andorra take on Wales to determine the other two semi-finalists on Thursday.
