Wales and Scotland's Under-16 Boys and Girls travelled to Ireland to take part in a number of international friendly fixtures last weekend as they continue their preparations for the U16 European Championships Division C this summer.

As part of the weekend series of games, both sides got the opportunity to play an international at the National Basketball Arena on Dublin's south side, the home of Basketball in Ireland.

A fantastic attendance of almost 1,000 spectators watched as Ireland's charges proved too strong for their Welsh and Scottish counterparts with the Boys in Green inflicting a 94-37 win at the expense of Wales, while Ireland's girls beat Scotland 79-57.

Despite the defeats, both sides will be encouraged by a number of impressive performances on the night.

Ireland U16 Women
Ireland's U16 Women overcame a nervous start to beat Scotland comfortly.

In the boys clash, the Welsh side started nervously and the step up was proving difficult as they trailed 55-13 at half time.

However, much to their credit, they responded in the second half with a much more controlled display.

Liam Jones will have happy memories of his trip to Dublin after top scoring for the visitor's with 10 points, while Arwel Goulbourne and Connor Hetherton also impressed.

Scotland's under-16 girls started brightly in their clash with Ireland with Taylor McKeown and Shannon Flippard in particular fine form. Katie Fergus was also causing the Irish problems but she was unable to prevent her side from a 41-25 deficit at half time.

A difficult third quarter saw that deficit extend to 60-36 but a spirited comeback in the final quarter restored some pride for the Scottish side.

Cara Black top scored with 13 points, while Sarah Hunter and Mirren Summers were in close pursuit with 12 and seven points respectively.

The teams took part in a number of games over the weekend, which took place at the Oblate and Greendale GYM, while the countries' development sides were also in action.
