Czech Republic Beat Russia And Advance

Alena Hanusova scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Czech Republic to a 59-47 victory over Russia on Wednesday.

The Czech center also corralled nine rebounds and blocked two shots as her team guaranteed themselves a place in the Quarter-Final stages of the U18 European Championship Women.

The Czechs led 27-22 at the break.

Russia reduced the deficit to 33-28 with less than four minutes to go in the third quarter, however, the Czechs scored the next seven points of the game to take command.

Viktoria Medvedeva led the Russians with 15 points.

The Czechs out-rebounded Russia 52-42.

Russia struggled from the floor, hitting just 17 of their 57 from shots while the Czechs finished 20 of 60.

The Russians, who won silver in Slovakia last year, failed to progress to the last eight having won just one of their six games in Södertälje.
