| 20.07.2008 Russia overcame a dreadful start to beat Belarus 69-51 and remain undefeated in the U18 European Championship for Women.
Veronika Dorosheva collected 18 points and 15 rebounds and Anastasya Shilova added 16 and 11 to leave Belarus without a win (0-3) in the group stages.
Last year's bronze medallists were ice cold in the first quarter, hitting just one of their 18 field goal attempts and two of their four free-throws as Belarus took a 16-4 lead. However, the Russians then turned the tables on their opponents, outscoring them 24-7 in the second period for a 28-23 half-time lead.
The persistent minnows came back in the third quarter behind the pair of Aliaksandra Zubrytskaya and Karalina Padshyvalalva and took a 45-41 advantage going into the final period.
But Russia finally found their shooting touch and clamped down on defense to completely obliterate Belarus in the final period.
They used a 10-0 run to take a 51-45 lead and outscored them 18-6 the rest of the way to stay perfect in Group C.
Zubrytskaya finished with 11 points and Padshyvalava had seven. |
