Natalia Vieru poured in 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Russia beat Lithuania 65-62 in overtime.

attempt rimmed out.

"It's extremely disappointing for us to have lost this game," said Lithuanian guard Aurime Rinkeviciute, who had 15 points in defeat.

"We played with a lot of intensity and we could have won.

"This game is nevertheless good experience for us."

Russia could have won the game in regulation but Gabriele Narviciuti’s attempt from the arc was off target.

Vieru grabbed the offensive board but missed with the follow-shot to leave the game knotted at 58-58.

The Russians then did just enough to win in overtime.

France showed no mercy as they destroyed Bulgaria 89-56 in the other group game.

Center Ana Maria Cata-Chitiga led the winners in scoring with 18 points, while three of her team-mates also finished in double figures.

Les Bleues led by as many as 37 points (89-52) late in the last quarter.

There was little their opponents could do with France shooting 27 of 57 (50%) from two-point range and eight of 14 (57.1%) from behind the arc.
