NEWSRussia’s dominance of the European Championship for U18 Women continues. For the 3rd time in a row and 4th time in 5 championships, Russia are European Champions at this age level.
They entered the final against Spain as the overwhelming favourites to win, having beaten all their opponents by an average margin of 31 points in the championship. A 2-point loss to Hungary withstanding, the Russians have looked like a team destined to be win the tournament. |

Ukrainian forward Olexandra Gorbunova led a talented crop of players at the European Championship for U18 Women in Bratislava.
The 185 cm Gorbunova was selected as MVP of the tournament. She led all players in scoring in Bratislava at 21.4 ppg, to which she added 9.8 rpg. Germany were unfortunate enough to face Gorbunova at her best, and in their preliminary round match-up, she scored 23 points and grabbed 24 rebounds. |

More HeadlinesIt was an efficient day for Russia here at the European Championship for U18 Women in Bratislava. Not only did they manage to qualify for the finals, they also avenged their ony defeat of the tournament against fellow semi-finalist Hungary.
In the preliminary round, Hungary caused the sensation of the championship by beating the Russians, 66:64. |

18 teams took part in the Challenge Round of the 2004 European Championship for U18 Women. Countries were divided into 3 groups of 6 teams. Group A played in Druskininkai, LTU, Group B in Léon, Spain and Group C in Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro.
After 6 days of play the 11 qualifiers for the final round emerged, as well as the medal favourites for the Championship which will take place 9th – 18th July 2004 in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. |
