Dallas Mavericks youngster Pavel Podkolzin has joined up with the Russian youth team to prepare for the upcoming Under-20 European Championships in Chekhov in the Moscow region.
The 20-year-old center, who was traded to Dallas after being selected by the Utah Jazz in the first round of last year's NBA draft, passed his medical tests and took part in his first training with the team this weekend.
Podkolzin, who is a towering 2.26m in height, only played in five games for the Mavs in the NBA but he has time on his side.
Russia will warm up for the U-20 European Championships by participating in the Basketball Federation of Russia Cup, which is a four-country tournament also involving the youth sides of the Czech Republic, Greece and Turkey.
The BFP Cup takes place between June 13-15 and provides an ideal chance for Russia to fine-tune their preparations for the European Championships, which start in July.
At that tournament, Russia have been drawn alongside France, Croatia and Slovenia in Group C with their opening match taking place against the Croatians on June 8.
