U20 Women Group B
|Alexandra Tarasova was one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 15 points and 9 rebounds|
Defending champions Russia underlined their dominance in Group B of the U20 European Championship Women as they routed Romania 79-40.
After rallying to beat Lithuania on the opening day, Russia made improving to 2-0 look like the easiest of tasks as the built a comfortable half-time advantage and then put on a clinic in the second half, outscoring their opponents 39-13.
Alexandra Tarasova had 15 points and nine rebounds while Veronika Dorosheva collected 11 points and six boards.
After an even start, Russia began to pull clear late in the first quarter, as back-to-back baskets from Yana Panevina sparked a 13-0 run that gave them a 23-9 lead.
Romania did their best to stay in the fight, with a 7-2 closing the gap to 37-26, on Sonia Ursu's jump-shot, just before half-time.
But it was a different story after the break as merciless Russia piled on the misery, scoring the first 11 points straight and hardly stopping for breath.
They shot 32-for-71 (45.1%) from the field for the game while making 10-of-23 (45.8%) from long range.
Viktoria Medvedeva added 13 points for Russia.
Guard Gabriela Cursaru was the only Romanian to score in double figures with 12 points.
