Defending champions Russia used a stunning third-quarter to brush aside hosts Serbia 74-65 and secure top spot in Group E at the U20 European Championship Women.

After a close first-half, Russia had held a 34-30 edge at the interval, but they dominated thereafter, scoring the first six points of the second half to build a double-digit lead.

Marina Markovic's three-pointer made it 40-33, but Russia then reeled off a 19-3 run to race away, going 59-36 ahead on Karina Nizamova's free throws.

Serbia did rally, with an 11-4 run - capped by Sara Krnjic's lay-up - making it a 71-58 game with 1:45 to go.

Yana Panevina nailed a three-pointer to give Russia breathing space, and Serbia's closing 7-0 spurt was in vain.

Alexandra Tarasova had 23 points and nine rebounds for Russia, while Anastasiya Shilova and Panevina finished with 14 each.

Krnjic led Serbia with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Markovic finished with 14 points.
Serbia settle for third spot in the group behind Poland.
