Seven years after representing Russia at youth level, Sapova finally got an opportunity to play for the senior team at EuoBasket Women two years ago and took the chance with both hands to finish with a gold medal hanging around her neck. She brought impressive energy on the wing, although she missed a couple of games through injury. Still, her 16-point haul in the semi-final against the Czech Republic was pivotal in the success, although she was left distraught when serious injury ended her Olympic dream. Having missed the entire 2011-12 season and the beginning of last, she could be in line for a return if she can persuade coach Vainauskas to place trust in her defence, rebounds and athleticism.
