In the first game of the day in Group F Germany overcame Russia 83-77.
Robin Benzing scored well for Germany, totalling 23 points while hitting all four of his two point field goals in the first quarter to allow his team to take an early lead.
Russia beat Croatia 71-63 in a finely balanced and fairly low-key affair to secure their second victory of the tournament.
With Spain playing on the other court the support that the Croatians had come to expect wasn’t as strong, and the quiet atmosphere seemed to transfer onto the court.
Lithuania made sure that all the tournament’s unbeaten records remained intact with a good comeback win against Russia 79-65.
In a real team effort five players scored in double figures, Zygimantas Janavicius led the way with 16 points while Vaidas Cepukaitis took 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The battle for the top of Group C was won by Serbia, who fought for an 85-76 win against hosts Spain in front of a passionate crowd of supporters.
You could tell from the intensity on the court and in the stands that this was the game of the tournament so far, and both teams fought in a close and fast paced encounter in which the Serbians just had the edge mentally over their hosts.
