Confident Russia Make It Three In A Row

Russia will go into the second round of the U16 European Championship for Women in confident mood after they cruised to an 85-51 victory over Croatia to wrap up top spot in Group B.

Ekaterina Ilinova had a game-high 18 points, including the final say from the foul line, in another convincing performance which hinted that they will be strong candidates to reach next Sunday's final in Cagliari.

An initial 6-0 run ensured that the Russians would never trail and, after they secured a 19-12 advantage at the end of the opening quarter, another 9-0 burst in the second propelled them toward a 35-19 half-time lead.

Winless Croatia conceded the first 11 points after the break as they slipped out of sight and not even a haul of 16 points and 8 rebounds from Antonija Chiabov could halt their slide into the relegation round.
