| 23.07.2008 The Czech Republic took care of business by beating Turkey 72-56 in the U18 European Championship for Women.
Katerina Bartonova scored a team-high 16 points while Klara Rosenbaumova had a solid all-around game with 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists as the Czechs improved to 3-1 to take sole possession of second place in Group E in the Qualifying Round. Meanwhile, the loss saw Turkey drop to 1-3 and fifth place.
The Czechs's offense was in full effect as they took a 28-17 lead after the first quarter thanks to some balanced scoring.
And they kept on rolling for the first part of the second period, leading by as many as 12, 35-23 before Turkey made a late push, cutting the deficit to six, 37-31 on a basket by Gamze Takmaz.
But the Czechs retained control and were on top by a score of 39-31 at the break.
The second half was not much different as Turkey stayed within striking distance but lacked the offensive panache to make a serious run that could have spelt trouble for the Czechs.
Takmaz had 19 points and nine rebounds and Tugce Canitez added 10 and 13 for Ayhan Avci Esref's side. |
