The Azzurre made amends for their poor start to the tournament, a 77-67 defeat to Ukraine, as Giulia Gatti scored 17 points.
Italy could have won the game in regulation but Gatti missed a pair of free throws with 17 seconds remaining, and that allowed Burcu Tasbas to level the scores at 55-55 with a layup.
Italy still had time to win but Martina Crippa's shot from the arc was off target.
Turkey took the lead in overtime, but Giulia Pegoraro's jump shot with one minute remaining gave Italy a 61-59 advantage and they stayed in front the rest of the way.
Durdane Gumusay missed a layup that would have brought Turkey level, and Clelia Corsi extended the Italians' advantage with an easy layup.
With Turkey trying to push the ball up the floor quickly, Tasbas turned the ball over with 10 seconds left and had to foul, and Pegoraro finished off the scoring by making one of two from the charity stripe.
"We could have done the job earlier but I missed the two free throws," said Gatti, who had a team-high 17 points.
"But we got the victory and we showed a vast improvement from yesterday. Now we have every chance of going through to the next round."
Turkey's defense limited the Azzurre to just seven points in the 14 minutes, but Roberto Ricchini's side woke up, and replied with a 12-1 run to go into the break trailing 25-22.
Turkey started the second half strong with a 10-0 run to stretch their lead to 32-22, but the Italians battled back with Debora Vicenzotti's jump shot tying the contest at 50-50 with less than two minutes remaining.
In the group's other game, Ukraine stormed to a convincing 86-60 triumph over Germany.
Center Olesya Malashenko poured in 33 points while also corralling 12 rebounds for the Ukrainians.
Ukraine took the lead for good three minutes into the second quarter and never looked back.
