| 03.07.2007 Cindy Garcia-Bennett, Novi Sad Another excellent performance from Agnieszka Skobel led Poland to a come-from-behind, 59-50 triumph over Turkey in the opening Group F clash for the two sides.
Skobel had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Poles, who turned a 22-15 deficit near the end of the first quarter into a 28-22 lead with 5:30 to go in the first half.
The 1.81m forward Skobel had six points in that surge that put Poland into the lead.
The game remained very tight, and Turkey twice went back in front, at 41-40 after a Burcu Tasbas jump shot and at 44-42 following a Safiye Simay Karaman three-ball.
Skobel again came to the fore, burying a jumper to start a 7-0 run that put Poland into the lead for good.
The teams then played out a very low-scoring fourth quarter, with Poland holding their opponents to just six points over the final 10 minutes. |
