Turkey Slip By Sweden

Turkey held off a resilient Sweden to prevail 52-49 in the last qualifying round game of the UMCOR European Championship for Women.

Turkish forward Burcu Tasbas led her team with 15 points, scoring all of them from long range where she buried five of eight shots (62.5%).

Turkey surged into a 33-20 half-time lead after outscoring the Swedes 22-4 in the second quarter.

The Scandinavians continued to battle closed the gap to 44-37 with 10 minutes remaining.

Turkey put paid to Sweden's hopes by holding them to just 12 points in the last period.

Swedish guard Stephanie Yderstrom had a game-high 18 points in defeat.
