Arroyo On Verge Of Joining Besiktas

Besiktas look set to make another big splash in the transfer market with Puerto Rican point guard Carlos Arroyo close to joining the team.

According to media reports in both Turkey, and Puerto Rico, the 32-year-old has agreed in principle on a deal that will see him finish the campaign with Besiktas.

The club has been looking to replace Deron Williams since his return to the New Jersey Nets at the end of the NBA lockout.

Besiktas finished top of Group A in the EuroChallenge Regular Season with six wins in as many games.

Arroyo has played in Europe before, most recently with Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2008-09 campaign.

Having spent the majority of his career in the NBA, Arroyo did not find a team following the end of the lockout.

Some of his most famous moments have come with Puerto Rico's national team.

Arroyo became a national hero in 2004 when pouring in 24 points, handing our seven assists and coming up with four steals in Puerto Rico's 92-73 upset of the heavily-favored United States on the opening day of the Athens Olympics.

Okur Reunited With D-Will

Mehmet Okur's return to the Utah Jazz didn't last long.

The veteran NBA star, a champion in his days with the Detroit Pistons, spent the past seven seasons in Salt Lake City.

During the NBA lockout, Okur played in the EuroChallenge with Turk Telekom but returned to Salt Lake City to get ready for the season with the Utah Jazz.

The New Jersey Nets, who have lost center Brook Lopez for a couple of months with a broken foot, on Thursday worked a trade to acquire Okur from the Jazz and that has reunited the big man with his former Utah teammate, Deron Williams.

"He's been a professional, and he's grown up as a basketball player here," Utah general manager Kevin O'Connor said.

"Hopefully he's going to a great opportunity to play a lot of minutes and increase his value in the league after being injured last year."

Okur was hurt and limited to just 13 games last season.

The Nets are excited about their latest acquisition.

"Mehmet will give us added scoring and size," said Nets general manager Billy King.

"His ability to shoot the three will help space the floor."
