Turkish Preparations On Track

03.08.2005

Turkey's women's national team are in confident mood as their preparations for EuroBasket Women are progressing according to plan.

Turkey will host EuroBasket Women, which will take place 2nd - 11th September in Bursa, Izmir and Ankara.

Turkey qualify for the event as the host nation and it will be the first time ever that a Turkish national team participates in EuroBasket Women.

Despite a lack of top level competition in recent history, the Turkish are looking to be more than competitive in September.

Their preparation began with an outstanding display at the Mediterranean Games in July where they won the bronze medal.

Turkey beat Greece (who finished 7th in the Olympics) in the semi-finals 85-60 and went on to defeat Croatia 68-66 in a nailbiting final.

The Turkish followed the Mediterranean Games with an appearance at the "Velka cena Slovenska" tournament in Slovakia where they finished in second position behind Lithuania.

Korel Engin and Sebnem Kimyacioglu, both of whom play NCAA basketball for Stanford, were selected to the All-Tournament team.

Turkey will return to Istanbul where they will play a tournament with Germany, Romania and Czech Republic on 9th-11th August.

Their EuroBasket Women campaign begins on 2nd September against Serbia & Montenegro.
