Reigning Under-16 European champions Turkey saw off some stern resistance from Portugal to wrack up a 3-0 record and race to the top of Group A.

At 67-61 it was a low-scoring affair but the difference between the side`s group campaigns could not be more different with the Portuguese suffering their third straight defeat.

Teoman Orge led the way with 19 points for Turkey but Mukremin Deniz Kilicli also shone, claiming a double-double consisting of 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Diogo Correia kept Portugal in the match with 13 points.

Italy, beaten by Turkey in the opening round of matches, continued to bounce back from that defeat beating Latvia to move to a 2-1 record.

Having beaten the Portuguese on Saturday, the Italian side repeated the feat by claiming a 77-67 win - largely thanks to the 20-point contribution of Luca Campani and a further 13 from Andrea Muner.

Girts Celms led the scoring for Latvia with 20 and Lauris Blaus added 15 but their efforts could not stop them slipping to a second defeat.
