|Man of the hour - Safak Edge hit a three-pointer with less than four seconds left in overtime to give Turkey the victory|
Safak Edge hit a game-winning three-pointer with 3.4 seconds on the clock in overtime to give Turkey a 64-61 victory against Latvia for the second place in Group C of the U20 European Championship.
The Turkish side finished the First Round with a 2-1 record and will carry over one victory to the Second Round, while Latvia will have to start with nothing in the win column.
With the game tied at 64-64, Latvia could have won the game at the end of regulation, but Janis Timma missed a corner three-pointer at the buzzer.
In overtime, Ugur Dokuyan gave Turkey a 61-59 lead with a minute to go, but Timma found Ojars Silins for an easy look from under the basket.
However, when it seemed that teams would need a second overtime, Safak Edge drained a three-pointer to give Turkey a victory that will mean very much in the next round.
The hero of the day collected 14 points and five assists for Turkey, while Samet Geyik was the only other Turkish player in double digits, with 10 points.
Ojars Silins scored 24 points for Latvia, Arturs Bricis added 16, but the Latvians could not capitalise on their much improved three-point shooting.
The Latvian players made 11-of-34 shots after going only 1-of-22 the day before against Spain.
