Five players scored in double figures as Turkey demolished Ukraine 93-44 to register their first victory in the qualifying round Group F of the U20 European Championship.
Every Turkish player had at least four points with Erol Cinko leading the way with 13 points. Ibrahim Yildirim and Can Ozcan both hit for 11 points while Melih Mahmutoglu and Ilkan Karaman each added 10 points for Turkey, who improved to 1-2.
Ukraine fell to 2-1 with Ruslan Otverchenko the leading scorer with seven points. Volodymyr Polyakh's team shot just 26 percent for the game.
Turkey jumped all over Ukraine right from the start. Mahmutoglu nailed back-to-back three-pointers and Yildirim followed from long range to start a 16-0 run for an 18-2 advantage.
The surge continued and ended up being 25-2 for a 27-4 lead before Ovterchenko's three-ball made it 27-7 after one period.
Ozcan started the second quarter with another triple. And Karaman tallied six points in an 18-5 run for a 48-15 cushion. Ukraine, which made just 5 of 26 shots (19%) from the field in the first half, would eventually cut the deficit to 51-21 at halftime.
The third quarter saw more of the onslaught with Mukremin Kilicli and Birkan Batuk each scoring four points in a 16-0 run which put Ene Orhun's team ahead 69-26. Ukraine were able to make it 69-31 after three quarters.
Yildirim's three-ball re-established a 43-point lead - 74-31. Three three-pointers by Ukraine cut the deficit to 37 points. But Turkey finished strong with a 13-0 run for the 49-point victory.
