Turkey Lose But Go Through

Russia's 63-60 defeat of Turkey was not enough for the them to pip the Turks to second place in Group C of the OSTCHEM U20 European Championship on Sunday night.

With three sides in the pool finishing with 2-1 records, it came down to points difference with the French and Turkey advancing and Russia having to settle for third place.

Petr Gubanov's lay-up with 49 seconds remaining proved decisive in Russia's win although Hakan Demirel could have tied it on the buzzer but his three-point attempt missed the basket.

Evgeny Voronov led Russia with 17 points and six rebounds.

Turkey had four players in double figures with center Oguz Savas leading the quartet with 13 points.
