Serbia slipped by Turkey 72-67 in an evenly-matched contest to go 4-0 in the U20 European Championship Women Qualifying Round in Gdynia, Poland.
Turkey did their best Serbia imitation getting out early on their opponents by shooting the ball well (54% for the game) while not forgetting to defend their own basket.
Tugce Canitez had eight points in the first period (14 in the game) for Turkey and a jumper by Burcu Cigil with :03 on the clock gave her team a ten-point lead (23-13) heading into the second.
Aziz Akkaya's squad enjoyed a 12-point lead early in second quarter when Yasemen Saylar's lay-up pushed them ahead 25-13.
But Serbia didn't let Turkey escape and cut the difference to two points at the end of the first half (41-39).
Four straight points by Nina Bogicevic, who ended with a game-high 22 points, put Serbia ahead 44-42 early in the third.
Now that Serbia had the lead, its was Turkey's turn to keep the game close.
It wasn't until Sonja Petrovic hit two free throws followed by a jumper with :39 seconds to play could Serbia begin to celebrate.
Petrovic had 19 points, 13 rebounds and five assists to once again pilot her team to victory but she is doubtful for tomorrow as she suffered a leg injury late into the game. Turkety's top performer was Saylar who scored 19 points to go with seven rebounds and two assists.
