Latvia have made the home fans happy for a second consecutive night, defeating Turkey 73-65 to make the Second Round of the Samsung U18 European Championship.
Pre-tournament favourites Turkey however are still winless after two games and face a do-or-die contest on Saturday.
Taking a six-point lead into the half, Latvian bench players Toms Leimanis and Dmitrijs Brizgalovs came up big in the third-quarter, combining for nine points on a 14-4 run to give their team a commanding 14-point lead going into the final frame.
Brizgalovs recorded 16 points and Leimanis had 14 for the winners.
Turkey refused to give up the fight and in the last ten minutes were doing enough to keep the fans nervous, coming back to be within four points when Tayfun Erulku stole the ball and drove to the hoop with less than two minutes remaining.
However, Turkey were unable to bridge the four-point gap as Latvia kept their noses in front from the charity stripe.
Also starring off the bench for Latvia was Davis Geks with 12 points.
Ilja Gromovs produced an impressive all-round display, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocks.
Turkey's top contribution came from Erulku, with 15 points.
Latvia can now advance to the Second Round unbeaten if they defeat Bulgaria on Saturday whilst Turkey will fight for their survival when they play France.
Turkey need to win to have any chance of going to the next round.
