In a thrilling showdown at the U16 European Championship Women 2010 Turkey landed a surprising 57-54 win over Spain.

The Turkish led by as many as 20 points in the second quarter. Spain rallied in the second half and came close to completing a stunning comeback but their last shot to force overtime did not find the bottom of the net though.

Trailing by four points after ten minutes Turkey was heating up in the second quarter. With accurate shooting from long range they quickly built a solid lead which grew up to ten points at halftime (27-37).

Things got even worse for reigning champion Spain as the Turkish went on a 10-0 run right after the intermission. At 20 points adrift the chances of Spain did not look too good. But the champions would not quit though and in a final push they managed to reduce the Turkish lead to 38-51 after three quarters.

Trimming the Turkish lead point by point Spain got closer and with 34 seconds left they had reduced the deficit to 52-57. Just a few moments later it was down to 54-57. Turkey got nervous and turned the ball over. Spain had the big chance to score the equalizer to force overtime just like they did against the Netherlands. Again it was up to Elena De Alfredo to take the important shot but this time she couldn't convert.

De Alfredo led Spain with 13 points. For Turkey, Cansu Köksal scored the most points (16).

Turkey got away with the victory which brought them first place in Group C. Turkey advance to the Qualifying Round together with the Netherlands and third ranked Spain. Poland (1 win, 2 losses) have to go to the Classification Round.
