U20 WOMEN DIVISION B
|Zsófia Licskai was the top rebounder for Hungary, grabbing nine boards|
Hungary held off a late rally to edge out the Czech Republic 56-55 and improve to 2-0 while handing the Czechs their first defeat.
Hungary led 53-47 with 2:10 left, but Katerina Kozumplikova's three saw the Czechs cut into the lead and it was 56-53 with 11 seconds left after Michaela Vojtkova split her free throws.
If that second miss was a let off for Hungary, they gave the advantage straight back when Zsofia Licskai missed two of her own.
But the Czechs could not capitalise, with Kozumplikova missing the three that would have tied it and Vojtkova's jump-shot not enough.
Anna Mansare had 16 points for Hungary, and Barbora Kasparkova replied with 14 and nine rebounds for the Czechs.
The Czechs' defeat sees Greece move to the top of the standings after their convincing 81-39 rout of Switzerland.
Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi led them to victory with 15 points while Artemis Spanou had 14, eight rebounds and five assists.
Styliani Fouraki also reached double figures with 12 points.
Romania and Israel both recorded their first wins at the third attempt.
Romania saw off Belgium 76-68 in overtime, ruining a big Belgian rally to force the extra period.
Romania had led 56-45 early in the fourth quarter but Belgium rallied and Natacha Doppee's big three tied it at 63-63 to send it to overtime.
Romania dominated the extra period and capped the win with a late three from Sonia Ursu.
Dora Ardelean led them to victory with 21 points and 12 rebounds, cancelling out 25 points from Emmanuella Mayombo.
Israel's 73-64 win over Bulgaria came courtesy of a big fourth quarter as they pulled away down the stretch for victory.
Thea Lemberger led them to victory with 25 points, while Viktoriya Stoycheva had 18 for Bulgaria.
