|Spain forward Ariadna Pujol delivered a remarkable all-round performance of 20 points, five rebounds, five steals and five assists|
Ariadna Pujol and Maria Arrojo underlined why they are two of Spain's best young prospects after combining for 40 points to put Sweden to the sword on day three of the U18 European Championship Women.
The duo were in sparkling form as the Spanish finished their round one games in style by waltzing to a 74-52 success in Group A, which means they will carry one victory forward into the Second Round.
Sweden meanwhile will start the next phase without any wins although they probably would have accepted that before arriving in Bucharest, being in such a strong group that features both France, who clinched the top spot already on Day Two, and Spain.
The Spanish ball movement and all-round offensive superiority meant Sweden were always second best and while they tried to compete, the gulf was evident as Spain raced into a 22-11 lead.
Additionally, the Spanish team combined for 16 steals, with Pujol claiming five of them, to make life even harder for their opponents.
Having cut the deficit to single digits at the interval, Sweden probably hoped for better things during the second half but so did Spain.
They turned up the heat all over the floor and consequently coasted to the win which secured them second place in the group.
