Sweden Edge Slovakia In Battle For Quarter-Final Spot

Mia Hakim made a pair of crucial free throws with 0:38 to go  to give her team an important 59-57 win against hosts Slovakia and a place in the Quarter-Finals in U18 European Championship Women 2010.

The encounter, in front of a partizan 1,000-strong crowd in Spisska Nova Ves, was a do-or-die significance as the winner would ensure a place in the next round while the losing side would be certain to bow out of contention.

Farhiya Abdi was Sweden's top scorer with 20 points and Amanda Zahui posted another double-double performance on 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Martina Kissová scored 18 points and Marta Páleníková added 16 for hosts.

Abdi was the player to watch in the first half when Sweden broke away from Slovakia 37-26.

The hosts trailed for most of the second half until Kissova tied the score from the foul line, 57-57, with 0:58 remaining in the fourth quarter, but Hakim matched her on the other end to seal the win for Sweden.
