Turkey Slip By Sweden

Turkey held off a resilient Sweden to prevail 52-49 in the last qualifying round game of the UMCOR European Championship for Women.

Turkish forward Burcu Tasbas led her team with 15 points, scoring all of them from long range where she buried five of eight shots (62.5%).

Italy Prove Resilient

Italy bounced back from a thrashing at the hands of Serbia in their Group F qualifying round opener at the UMCOR U18 European Championship by beating Sweden 66-55 on Wednesday.

The Swedes led 49-45 seven minutes into the second half but the Azzurre then went on a 12-0 run to take command, with Giulia Gatti scoring eight of her 12 points in that surge.

Ukraine Still On A Roll

High-scoring Olesya Maleshenko poured in 18 points as the Ukraine train steamrolled Sweden 81-60 for a fourth consecutive victory at the UMCOR U18 European Championship Women.

Maleshenko had great support by Tayisiya Bovykina, who had 18 points, and Arina Lysyuk who scored 17.

Serbia Take Group C, Sweden Through

Serbia pulled away late in the fourth quarter to beat Poland 70-56 and progress to the qualifying round of the UMCOR U18 European Championship for Women as Group C winners.

The tournament hosts had to do without injured duo Nevena Jovanovic and Jelena Mitic but found in last season's tournament MVP, Sonja Petrovic, their guiding light.
