Sweden Streak Past Ukraine

13 September 2006

Four players tallied double-digit scoring as Sweden posted their second win in EuroBasket Qualifying with an 81-71 victory over the Ukraine.

Sweden led for most of the game, but the Ukraine pulled to within three going into the final quarter.

However, Ukraine went cold to start the fourth, scoring just four points over the first six minutes of the final stanza.

Sweden wasn’t setting the world on fire either with their offense, but they were able to string together a 10-4 run to open up a 72-62 lead midway through the final quarter.

Ukraine would get within seven with just under four minutes to go, but Sweden then came back with six unanswered on a three-pointer by Serkan Inan and three free throws from Olivier Ilunga to take a 78-68 lead with 1:54 remaining, which sealed the win for the Swedes.

Per Ringstrom was the high man for Sweden with 12 points, while Yevgeniy Podorvannyy led Ukraine with 15.

On Saturday, Sweden play Bulgaria and Ukraine take on Poland.
