Poland, Bulgaria and Sweden enjoyed winning starts to the additional qualifying round for the EuroBasket Women on Wednesday.
The Poles, who narrowly missed out on automatic qualification, won 68-63 in Group A at Finland but they found themselves in danger of being upset at the end of the third quarter after Taru Tuukkanen buried a three-pointer to give the hosts a 52-46 lead.
Eva Viteckova netted 24 points as the Czech Republic national women's team defeated Sweden 86-51 in a friendly match on Monday in Brno.
The game was effectively over by the end of the first quarter when the Czechs, gold medalists at the EuroBasket Women two years ago in Turkey, held a 32-11 lead.
Poland took a significant step towards qualifying for EuroBasket Women 2007 by beating Sweden 95-52.
The Poles improved to 4-2 and now must wait on the outcome of the Croatia-Germany contest to see where they finish in Group C.
EuroBasket Women 2007 qualifying is nearly complete and there are a number of teams who still have a chance to advance to the Final Round in Chieti, Italy.
A total of nine spots are on offer with the top teams from the each group directly qualifying to EuroBasket 2007, along with the four best second placed teams, determined according to:
