Anna Carbo scored 20 points and grabbed 8 offensive rebounds as Spain beat Czech Republic at the Umcor European Championship U18 Women on Thursday.
Both sides were already assured of a place in Saturday's semi-final, but Spain's victory means a match-up with Sweden, while Czech Republic will take on the undefeated Serbia & Montenegro.
Consistency has been a real problem for Spain in this tournament and so it proved against the Czechs.
Both sides shot the ball poorly in the opening quarter, but Spain were particularly poor, connecting on just 3/16 field goal attempts and 2/6 free throws.
The Czechs proved marginally better at 40% from the field, and led 15-8 after 10 minutes.
Spain began to attack the boards in the second quarter and it paid off. The Spanish grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and although their shots were still not falling, they cut Czech Republic's lead to 4 points, 25-21.
Spain began to fire on all cynlinders in an impressive third quarter display.
Carbo erupted for 10 points and Spain outscored their opponents 19-10 to take a 5-point lead into the final quarter, 40-35.
The Czechs produced a stunning come-from-behind victory against France on Wednesday, but there was to be no repeat performance against Spain.
In another poor shooting quarter, Carbo kept the scoreboard ticking over with 6 of Spain's 10 points and it proved enough for victory.
