Spain coach Moncho Lopez drew only positive conclusions from his side's 91-56 hammering of Poland on Thursday - their penultimate preparation game for next month's European Championships.

After seeing his players bounce back from Tuesday's 88-70 defeat against Lithuania, Lopez can be rest assured that his players are serious contenders for the tournament in Sweden.

Pau Gasol, the Memphis Grizzlies star, was scintilliating yet again for the Spaniards with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Perhaps the best news for Spain was the return to form of power forward Felipe Reyes.

The Estudiantes big man, struggling with an ankle injury picked up at the end of last season, will have to play a major role if Spain are to have a chance of the title in Sweden.

In 19 minutes against Poland, Reyes gave signs that he is on the way back to his most destructive form, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Spain sped off to 43-29 lead with Reyes scoring 11 of his points and Gasol hauling down six
rebounds.

But Lopez insisted they had to battle.

"We were surprised at how hard the game was at the start and we had to work really hard to keep our concentration," he said.

The home side then ran away from the Poles in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 26-6 in the third quarter.

"In the second half, we felt a lot more confortable and we were able to
enjoy ourselves," Lopez said.

Spain face Latvia on Friday.
