Real Madrid youngster Nikola Mirotic has travelled to Makarska, Croatia, hoping to play for Spain at the U20 European Championship.

The naturalized power forward from Montenegro made his debut with the under-20 side over the weekend and injured his ankle in the team's friendly defeat to Lithuania.

Doctors examined the player and determined he had a ligament injury but one that he should recover from in order to help out Juan Antonio Orenga's side.

Spain are in Group D with Germany, Slovenia and hosts Croatia.
