Spain Rally Past Lithuania

Marta Xargay paced four players in double figures as Spain remained perfect at the U20 European Championship for Women with an 80-68 victory over Lithuania.

Xargay scored 22 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists while Vega Gimeno and Cristina Ouvina each hit for 15 points for Spain, who improved to 4-0 in the qualifying round Group F. Leonor Rodriguez added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in the victory.

Giedre Pagauite collected 19 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocks for Lithuania, who dropped to 2-2 in the group. Marina Solopova had 19 points while Gabriele Gutkauskaite chipped in 10 points. 

Lithuania started the game in better form, twice opening six point leads and being ahead 25-17 after one period.

The Lithuanians continued to build their cushion in the second quarter, leading 32-18 midway through the period. But Spain answered with the next seven points and had the deficit down to five points before trailing 41-33 at the break.

The Spanish opened the second half with a 7-0 run and a later 10-0 spurt gave them their first lead and a 52-48 advantage. And Spain led 55-51 going into the foruth.

The game was decided with a 9-2 Spanish surge for a 68-57 advantage with three minutes to play.
