By David HeinSara Krnjic, Tijana Ajdukovic and Jovana Popovic all notched double-doubles and Sanja Orozovic added 12 points in guiding Serbia to a dominating 80-63 victory over Germany in the opening match of Group C play at the U20 European Championship for Women.
Krnjic had 20 points and 10 rebounds, Ajdukovic collected 14 and 10 while Popovic was just shy of a triple-double with 12 points, 10 assists and eight assists in Grobina, Latvia.
Anna-Lisa Rexroth paced Germany with 14 points and Pia Mankertz had 13 points in the loss.
Orozovic scored 10 points in helping Serbia jump ahead 18-5 early on. The Serb lead grew to 14 points and was 27-15 after one period.
Krnjic took over in the second quarter with nine points as the lead never dipped below eight points and Serbia led 42-30 at halftime.
Serbia used a 12-3 run in the third quarter for an 18-point lead, which was 66-46 going into the final 10 minutes. And Germany would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
In the other Group C game, Vega Gimeno scored 17 points and Amaya Gastaminza added 14 points in Spain's 74-50 victory over Italy.
Cristina Ouvina chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals while Leonor Rodriguez had nine points, six rebounds and four assists for Spain.
Italy were paced by Martina Bestagno's 13 points with Laura Spreafico adding 12 points.
Italy were holding their own in the first quarter, leading most of the period and as late as 11-8 before watching Spain finish the first 10 minutes ahead 15-14.
The Iberians then opened the second quarter on an 11-0 run and after a single Italy basket scored the next 10 points for a 36-16 lead, which was 36-18 at halftime.
The Italians used an 8-0 surge in the third quarter to pull within 12 points but Spain re-established a 20-point cushion before Italy trimmed the deficit to 52-38 after three quarters.
Italy could not get any closer than 13 points in the fourth and Spain built the advantage to 26 points for an easy victory.
