Spain Flex Muscle Against Latvia



Alejandro Abrines Redondo scored 16 points to lead a balanced Spain in a strong 79-58 victory over Latvia to remain undefeated in Group C at the U18 European Championship Men.

Alejandro Suarez added 12 points and six other Spanish players scored at least six points. Janis Berzins was the only player to score in double digits with 13 points for Latvia, who dropped to 0-2.

Spain opened an initial cushion with a 9-2 run for a 14-5 lead. The advantage was 18-8 after one quarter.

The Iberians pushed the lead to 15 points - 23-8 - before Latvia climbed to within 25-16. But Redondo scored 10 points in an 18-3 Spanish surge to close the first half with a 43-19 lead.

Latvia could only get the margin down to 22 points in the third quarter while Spain led by as many as 31 with the gap being 65-37 after three periods.

In the fourth quarter, Latvia trimmed the deficit to 16 points.
