Spain Blast Past Uninspiring Russia



Spain remained perfect at the U18 European Championship Men by blasting past Russia 94-59 in the Qualifying Round Group F.

Alejandro Abrines Redondo collected 21 points and four steals while Jaime Fernandez had 19 points, five assists and four steals and Jorge Sanz scored 14 points for the 3-0 Spaniards.

Russia's only double-digit scorer was Aleksandr Gudumak with 22 points and nine rebounds as the team dropped to 0-3 in the group.

Spain led 13-4 when Russia reeled off a 10-0 run to take the lead. But the Spanish were ahead 19-18 after one period.

It was 22-20 when Spain went on a 13-1 run surge for a 35-23 advantage. The lead grew to 17 points and the Iberians led comfortably 43-29 at halftime.

Spain started the second half with an 8-1 run for a 51-30 lead and the cushion grew to 27 points before the third quarter ended with Spain ahead 69-43.

Russia would not get closer than 26 points the rest of the game and Spain led by as many as 38 points in the fourth quarter.
