Spain U18 Post Friendly Wins In Holland

20 July 2009

The Spanish and German teams warming up for the U18 European Championship in France have been playing in the International Tournament of Holland this weekend.

Spain hosted the Germans earlier in their preparations and lost but in their meeting in Rotterdam on Saturday, they found the going easier with Germany robbed of their star of the Spanish tour, Philipp Neumann, due to illness.

Alejandro Martinez's Spain prevailed 62-54.

"Today we had a missed opportunity," said Germany coach Kay Bl├╝mel, who felt his Nuemann-less team had been good enough to win.

"Rarely has it been so easy for a Spanish team to win as it was today.

"We were unfortunately far from the level of a week ago..."

Alejandro Martinez's Spaniards followed up that triumph with another against the Netherlands.

Ignacio Llovet led a balanced Spanish scoring attack with 17 points in a 109-76 victory.

Germany defeated the Rotterdam Challengers in their next game, 60-56.
