Tragedy For Spain

Winning and losing basketball games was tragically put into perspective at the UMCOR U18 European Championship Men in Greece.

Guillem Raventos, who took part in the Spanish team’s U18 preparations, lost his life yesterday evening in a motorbike accident in Badalona, Spain.

Raventos died instantantly when his motorbike slammed into a highway roadside barrier.

The 17-year old played with DKV Joventut’s youth team.

A minute moment of silence took place prior to the bronze medal game between Spain and Turkey.

“This game is for my friend,” said Spain’s Marc Rubio.

“It is a tragic loss not only for basketball but for all of Guillem’s friends and family,” said FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.

“On behalf of FIBA Europe, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Guillem Raventos, the Spanish Basketball Federation and DKV Joventut.”
