 MVP Daniel Pieper averaged 14.2 points and 11.6 rebounds to ensure Monaco would cap a fairytale tournament with the crown

The Principality of Monaco captured their first medal at the U16 European Championship Division C on Sunday.

Taking on Scotland in the Final, Ludivine Fraget's team won 61-53, to take gold.

Alessandro Generale had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Monaco, who led by 10 at half-time but saw their advantage cut to 48-47 with four minutes remaining.

Generale calmed their nerves by burying a three-pointer to push the lead to four.

After Daniel Pieper added a three-point play, Pierrick Motillon connected from behind the arc.

Pieper had an outstanding tournament for Monaco and was named MVP of the event.

The 1.96m center averaged 13.8 points, 11.3 points and 3.3 assists.

Hosts Gibraltar won the battle for third place with a 50-45 triumph over San Marino.

Thomas Yome had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Gibraltar.

Sergi Jimenez Marquez had 18 points and 10 rebounds as Andorra prevailed over Malta, 76-67, in the battle for fifth place.

The all-tournament team selections were Malta's Zane Micallef, Gibraltar's Jake Haefner, Scotland's Gregor Gray, Monaco's Pieper and Igor Biordi of San Marino.

Wales did not reach the podium but received the Fair-Play Award.
