Antonio Tavares is a guard with a vast amount of experience, having first played for his country some 13 years ago. At the age of 35, he could be back for one last swansong in a Portuguese National Team vest and what would be his first major tournament having missed out in 2007. He also didn't feature last summer during the Qualifying Round, but Coach Palma could turn to him to help bolster the team's firepower and in particular ensure they have a threat from range. Tavares is a quick player with good hands and has been a regular Portuguese All Star player during his career. He was very important in Benfica last season, recovering some of the fire power he seemed to have lost slightly in recent years. He performed well in EuroChallenge and was handed more minutes. He is a fantastic shooter and when inspired, he can really be unstoppable. He also has a big heart, so he can be used by Palma to maintain the team focus during rough games.
