Marco Goncalves is still waiting for the call for the National Team and will be hoping he can squeeze onto the bench for EuroBasket 2011. The 27-year-old has represented his country previously as a youth player when he posted over 10 points and 4 rebounds per game at the U20 European Championship way back in 2004 but never quite made the transition to the seniors and even came close to quitting the sport when he had problems at Benfica. Coming into the summer after arguably the best season of his career, he brings qualities at both ends of the floor including strength under the basket, real quickness and a good rebounding presence. He is also a very competent defender although of course he is still unproven at the elite level. Goncalves does know what it is like to play at a major tournament, having participated at the World Student Games six years ago and he could be a revelation if he makes it to Lithuania.
