Poland Suffocate Slovenia, Both Advance

The Polish really believed in their chances to go to the Qualifying Round of the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women, and they fought hard to beat Slovenia 55-38.

The Slovenian team was living on the edge in the final minutes of the game, as they were really close to losing their place to the benefit of the team they beat on Friday, Lithuania.

All three teams, Poland, Slovenia and Lithuania finished with 4 points, but Poland and Slovenia had the edge in the three team tie.

Poland used a perfect zone defense and took full advantage of  Slovenia's terrible shooting day.

The Slovenes finished with 21.9 percent field goals and only 15.4 percent from beyond the arc.

"I told the girls before the game that it will not be a problem if their opponents will sometimes score from outside. They respected the game plan, they defended well and we got this very important victory," said  Adam Zieminski, head coach of the Polish team.

Poland took the lead right from the start and they were in control for the entire game.

Slovenia couldn't come closer than five points and lost the track midway the fourth quarter when Poland was leading by 17, 49-32.

Karolina Wilk had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists while Dominika Miloszewska contributed with nine points and 11 rebounds for the winning side.

Alina Gjerkes and Rebeka Abramovic combined for 22 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals in a losing effort.
