Poland have a new but very experienced coach for this summer's EuroBasket in ex-Slovenia boss Ales Pipan but the national team's frontline won't be at full strength with Maciej Lampe unavailable and star center Marcin Gortat undecided about taking part.
The country is currently hosting the EuroBasket Women but the sport is also abuzz about the make-up of this summer's national team.
Pipan has announced on the Polish websites sport.wp.pl and SportoweFakty.pl: "Maciej won't be playing for sure because of a private problem."
The coach did not offer any details on the issue keeping the 26-year-old Lampe, who averaged more than 18 points and seven rebounds in Russia's domestic league this season with UNICS Kazan, out of the squad.
The 2.11m center was a towering presence for the Poles last summer in their Division A campaign, averaging 16.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest.
As for Phoenix Suns pivot Gortat, who continues to get better in every NBA season, there were reports in the Polish media that he would take part in the EuroBasket which included a Pipan remark about the 27-year-old.
"He will play without any problems," Pipan was quoted as saying.
But this week, Gortat said: "There is no decision yet about the EuroBasket and whether or not I will come.
"I will decide on July 1 or 2."
Poland are in Group A of the EuroBasket and will take on Spain, Turkey, hosts Lithuania, Great Britain and one of the two teams that makes it through the Additional Qualifying Round - Portugal, Finland or Hungary.
