Big Triumph For Hosts Serbia & Montenegro

15.07.2005

Serbia & Montenegro rolled to a 110-62 triumph on day one of the U18 European Championship men in Belgrade.

A country which has produced its share of leading basketball players in the world, there appears to be no shortage of talent with the Poles outclassed in nearly every facet.

The game was all but over by the end of the first quarter by which time the Serbo-Montenegrins had built a 28-14 advantage.

The tournament hosts then reeled off seven straight points to start the fourth quarter to ice the victory.

There does appear to be a deficiency in the games of many of the junior teams around Europe, and that is woeful free throw shooting.

Serbia & Montenegro were just 12 of 21 for the game (57.1%), while Poland were seven of 13 (53.%).

Nenad Zivcevik came off the bench to lead the home team with 20 points.
